Caitlin Clark- The Star of Women’s Basketball

Caitlin+Clark-+The+Star+of+Womens+Basketball

Caitlin Clark has been a hot topic in the sports world recently, as she just broke the record for most points scored in women’s NCAA history. This record was formerly held by Kelsey Plum and Clark broke it on February 15 when she dropped 49 points against Michigan. Two weeks later on March 3, she broke the all-time scoring record formerly held by Pete Maravich, who held the record for 54 years. Clark scored 35 points, putting her at 3,865 points all-time. As well as shattering these milestone achievements, Clark has reached 1,000 assists and became the first woman to score 3,000 points and have 1,000 career assists. She also just broke the record for most 3-pointers in a season with 163, with a career 503 3-pointers being the only woman in Big Ten history with 500+ career 3-pointers, she is only 55 3-point makes away from the all-time record and only 24 away from the women’s record, both achievable by the end of her career. The Iowa Hawkeyes just won their 3rd Big Ten championship in a row, could this year be the year where they win the natty? The only knock on Clark is that she hasn’t won a national championship. She has fierce competition with number 1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks who have won 47 straight regular season games. It is also hard to count out reigning national champs LSU Tigers who are ranked number 8.

Caitlin Clark is single-handedly changing the narrative when it comes to women’s sports. Women’s sports have been underappreciated for a long time and now because of her casual viewers of basketball have been tuning into Iowa Hawkeyes games. The lowest ticket price to the Iowa vs. Ohio State game (The game she broke the scoring record) was 457$. The average price of a ticket to go to a girl’s Hawkeye game is 556$ while the boys is anywhere between 325$-375$. She is the role model for young girls who believe that basketball isn’t an option.

Nevertheless, she has had a fantastic 3.5 years in college let’s see if she can make the last half of the year count, and let’s see what she does in the WNBA where she will most likely be the number 1 overall pick to the Indiana Fever.
