Last Friday, on March 24, Woodmore students packed their backpacks and left school to begin their spring break. Some students immediately took off to visit tropical destinations, others went on road trips across the state, while some stayed in the comfort of their hometown. Spring break is more than just a week off—it’s a time for much-needed relaxation, fun with friends, and creating new memories.
Some students and staff headed straight for more tropical areas. They spent days under the palm trees with the people they love. Freshman Olivia Schreck spent her spring break in the sun, tanning on the beach. She went on a cruise to Mexico and Honduras. Her favorite part? “…spending time with all my family at dinner every night,” she shared. Another student, sophomore Maddie Screptok, visited the Sunshine State. Maddie went to Florida for the week and rode jet skis with her mom and sister. “My favorite part was waking up to watch the sunset,” she said.
Mr. Fannin even set sail for the Bahamas! He went on a Disney cruise with his two daughters and his wife. They stopped at Nassau in the Bahamas, visited Castaway Cay, and admired the beautiful beach views. His favorite memory was, “…watching my kids have a fun time.” Also in the Bahamas, senior Alivia Smith enjoyed swimming with the pigs and stingrays! She loved tanning on the cruise and trying new foods. “My favorite part was definitely swimming with the pigs and holding the baby ones,” she said.
Another staff member, Ms. Ralston, visited multiple states! She traveled to Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana with “…my parents, brothers, and sister-in-law to the WWII Museum in NOLA, drove through Mississippi, and ended up at the beach in Alabama. My dad needed to visit LA, MS, and AL to have been to all 50 states.” She enjoyed the wonderful weather and being part of a special experience with her dad while making memories with her family.
While some ventured out of state, others found adventure right here in Ohio. Some people found the most comfort in their own hometown. Macie and Mylie Grove visited Amish Country with their family. They ate homemade Amish food, explored antique malls, and went to a cheese factory. Their favorite part was, “…eating fresh local foods.”
In Mansfield, Ohio, Olivia Donley visited her childhood best friend. Olivia reminisced about her old hometown and the memories she left behind. She and her friend watched the sunset and visited a local Starbucks together. Olivia shared that what she misses most about her old town is “…living minutes away from Ariyah.”
One of our staff members, Mr. McMahon, visited a local hockey rink and attended a college hockey game! “My friend and I went to the NCAA College Hockey Regional Tournament at the Huntington Center. We watched Ohio State vs. Boston University. The hockey game was definitely my favorite, even though Ohio State lost. Lots of goals were scored, and the pep bands brought great energy to the stadium,” he said.
Our next student, Calvin Lipstraw, found excitement right here in Elmore. He spent his spring break “playing baseball with friends.” While some of his family was in Florida, they brought him back a new hat as a souvenir! Calvin enjoyed starting out the new baseball season over spring break.
Lastly, senior Kora Perkins went on a college visit to The Ohio State University. While in Columbus, she learned more about campus life and spent time with her brother who lives there. She enjoys visiting him because, “I don’t get to see him a lot, and he gives the best advice.”
Spring break is a great time to relax and relieve the stresses of everyday life. Now that we’re back at school, it’s exciting to hear everyone’s stories—from trips around the world to adventures right here in Ohio. We hope everyone had a great break and continue to work hard through the final quarter of the school year!
