The Woodmore Wildcats are sending three wrestlers down to Columbus for the state tournament. Wyatt Theiroff, a sophomore whose record is 37-9 this year. He went 3-2 at the district tournament, with his outstanding performance, Wyatt was able to place 5th and is an alternate for the state tournament. Michael Seeger was another of Woodmore’s placers at this district tournament with his record on the season being 33-12. Michael’s record at districts was also 3-2. Making him an alternate at state after placing 5th. Lastly, the Wildcats had one state qualifier, being Landon Rich. Landon’s record on the year is 38-10. He went 3-1 at the district tournament, with Rich winning his first three matches. He advanced to the finals where he did lose, but Rich placed 2nd and qualified for state. Rich is the first state qualifier since 2014.
Landon Rich was interviewed about his qualifying for the state tournament. The first question that Rich was asked was, ‘how did it feel to win your semifinals match and know you were going to state?’ His response was, “It felt great to win the semis match because I knew the hard work for years finally paid off.” Next he was asked, ‘what are your goals at the state tournament?’ He responded to that with, “ My goals at state are to make the podium and win matches, and I believe I have a chance at placing because my training in practice has me well prepared for this tournament.” Lastly, Rich was asked, ‘how do you prepare for the state tournament?’ “I prepare the same as every week by working hard in practice and staying mentally tough as well,” was how he responded.
The three wrestlers going down to state leave Thursday and will start wrestling on Friday. Congratulations to them on their achievement of making it to state and good luck to them on their quest to place at state.
