The Woodmore High School basketball team had a close game last Friday against Port Clinton. The final score was 70 to 68. In the first quarter, the game was tied 10 to 10. Then, at half-time, Port Clinton took the lead 34 to 25. Woodmore and Port Clinton were tied at 37 at the beginning of the third quarter. The score was back and forth the whole game. Finally, Port Clinton scored the last few points to take the lead with just seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Junior Carson Slates had a great game, scoring 29 points. This is Carson Slates’s first year playing for Woodmore after transferring from Oak Harbor. He was asked if he was satisfied with your performance, what the team did Friday that needed work, and how it could improve for the next game. His response was, “No I wasn’t satisfied with my performance because I missed 7 free throws and we lost by 2. As a team, we need to make our free throws and layups to get easy points and work on our defense so we don’t give up 70 points in a game.”
Along with Carson, senior Brady Thatcher and sophomore Gavin Donley both had good games. Donley had 8 points and Thatcher had 22 points. Thatcher was asked the same questions as Slates. His response was, “I wasn’t satisfied because I know I could’ve made more free throws to secure the win for the team. As a team, we need to make more free throws, rebound better, and communicate better on defense. If our team improves on all of these things we will be hard to beat.”
The Junior Varsity and Freshman teams both lost tough ones at home last Friday. The JV lost 55 to 28. Ish Nagy and Collin Perkins both scored 7 points each. The Freshmen lost 41 to 28 as Parker Boss led with 14 points and Mason McGee had 10 points. The Wildcat’s next home game will be this Friday against North Baltimore and the theme will be neon.
