In honor of Thanksgiving being celebrated this upcoming Thursday, why not bring light to the holiday’s traditions? Thanksgiving is a nationally recognized holiday by various countries. This day came to be around 1620 when the pilgrims and the Native Americans shared an autumn feast. This became recognized as the first Thanksgiving celebration. In November 1863, President Abraham Lincoln announced the official Thanksgiving holiday. Since then, Thanksgiving has been celebrated as a national holiday and a cheerful autumn day.
Additionally, an abundance of traditions are held on Thanksgiving and during Thanksgiving week. These traditions have been going on for many years and many families carried these traditions on through the generations. The traditions that make Thanksgiving so special and meaningful are breaking the wishbone, Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, football, hosting Friendsgiving, Black Friday, and giving thanks. Many Americans could agree that the Macy’s Parade is on the TV while cooking the food for a big dinner or a get-together. Then later in the evening, people can get together and have the game on. At the dinner, giving thanks is a big part of the day because it’s what the day revolves around. During the week, black Friday is happening and that puts holiday feels in the air. This all surrounds Thanksgiving and makes the day feel so special and exciting.
Overall, Thanksgiving is a one-of-a-kind holiday and has been celebrated for a very long time. Many families could celebrate this holiday differently; however, these traditions are part of a vast majority of people. What makes this holiday so unique is how the day is celebrated. Sure other holidays have similarities to Thanksgiving; however, I can’t think of any other holidays that revolve around being grateful for what you have and eating traditional foods. This holiday holds so much significance and love with people around the world.
For many decades these have been part of the holiday. However, the highlight of the holiday isn’t the traditions, but the heartwarming aspect of the day. Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks to the people around us and being grateful for the things we have. This holiday is meaningful to many because of its gratitude and the love within the day.
