Trick or treating on Halloween night has been a tradition for too many years to count. Kids dress up as their favorite princesses or superheroes while walking around and collecting their favorite treats. While many families are busy carving pumpkins with the scariest faces on them, students from Woodmore High School that are involved in Key Club are out trick or treating for UNICEF to collect donations!
Now, you are probably wondering what UNICEF is and why students are out collecting money on Halloween night, right? UNICEF is a national organization that gives money around the world towards items like education, health products, protection, medical supplies, and so much more. Students get a small orange box from their Key Club advisor, gather their friends, and collect donations from the community to help children all around the world. Key Club has been supporting this organization for so long that many community members already have their donations ready for when the students come around to drop into their bright orange boxes.
An example of where your donation could go is towards supplies in Haiti. Last year UNICEF was on the ground in Haiti helping communities recover from earthquakes and giving nutritious food and medicine to children who are struggling to gain weight due to the lack of supplies. They set up a malnutrition clinic in a local neighborhood to help families who have children that were struggling with dietary issues. They also sent UNICEF to give people educational opportunities in Haiti. This is just one small example of where your donation could go but it could also end up in Central Asia, Vietnam, Pakistan, and many other places around the entire world.
Key Club is honored to continue this tradition of trick or treating for UNICEF. It is a great opportunity for students to spend time with friends and collect donations towards a great cause! The communities of Elmore and Woodville continue to show support to this foundation each year, and Key Club is excited to inform more members of the community about it this year.
