We’re happy to introduce Ryan Avers as a new staff member here at Woodmore, joining us as our agriculture teacher. Teaching wasn’t something Mr. Avers planned to do, but his love for the agriculture industry brought him here. He’s excited to teach students about why agriculture is so important and how each day in the industry can be different. Mr. Avers also highlights the importance of FFA, showing students that it’s not just about farming, but also about learning leadership skills that will help them in college or when looking for a job. In his words, “FFA isn’t just about agriculture and farming. It’s a wonderful organization to be part of and to learn different leadership skills to help shape you in the future, on going to college or even finding a job.”
Before becoming an agriculture teacher here at Woodmore, Mr. Avers worked on his family’s farm, Avers Acres Strawberries, where he was both the owner and a maintenance technician. He took care of the equipment, managed the farm’s operations, and helped with growing the crops. This hands-on experience gave him a strong understanding of agriculture and how a farm runs day-to-day. Along with farming, Mr. Avers spent the last six years officiating basketball, starting with high school varsity men’s and women’s games and later moving on to women’s college games. His background in both farming and sports taught him valuable skills like hard work, leadership, and discipline, which he now shares with his students in the classroom today.
Mr. Avers first went to Terra State Community College, where he studied Agribusiness Management. This degree taught him how to use business skills in farming to save money, increase profits, and make sure products are grown and distributed efficiently. Next, he will be going to Bowling Green State University (BGSU) to obtain his teaching license.
Mr. Avers’ favorite thing about Woodmore is that it’s a smaller school where everyone knows each other, which makes it easier for students and teachers to connect. He said, “everyone in woodmore is extremely helpful and as a whole wants everyone to succeed.” This spirit of teamwork and support creates a positive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and encouraged, allowing students to ask questions and ask for help when they need it.
Mr. Avers told me that the best part of being an agriculture teacher is the opportunity to teach his students everything he knows about agriculture and share his passion for the subject with them.
We’re happy to have Mr. Avers join Woodmore as our new Agriculture teacher. With his background in farming and sports, and a degree in Agribusiness Management, he brings a lot of valuable skills and knowledge to the Agriculture classroom. He’s excited to share his love for agriculture and show students how important it is, while also helping them develop leadership skills through FFA. Mr. Avers appreciates the supportive, close community at Woodmore, and he’s looking forward to helping students succeed both in agriculture and in life.
