The First Leg of the Cross Country Season

   The Cross Country Season is in full swing, and after four weeks and four meets, we have a pretty good idea of where the team stands. Currently, the boys team has been sprinting towards a good end to the season, as they are currently expected to finish second at the SBC championships on October 12 behind New Riegel. Senior Brady Thatcher says he “expects for the team to win the SBC River Division.” As a leader on the team, Thatcher hopes to PR every meet for the rest of the season and achieve a 5k time under 17 minutes. So far, Thatcher’s favorite memory thus far has been “when he broke 18 minutes and ran a 17:49 and our team also placed 5th and we had 7 runners under 20 minutes”.The end of the season is looking bright for our boys Cross Country team.

     The story for our girls team is a little different. Currently, the girls team does not have enough runners to compete. Senior Stella Strong says, “I hope that we get a fifth runner so we can have a full team by the SBC race.” Besides that, Strong’s goals for the season include being able to run every race since she wasn’t able to last year because of injuries. So far, Strong is on track for this goal. Strong also wants to run a 23 minute 5k before the season is over. Her favorite memory of the season is warm ups before races. She says this is because the members of the boys team always say “the most outrageous comments”. Hopefully the girls team is able to find enough members to have a great end to their season.
