Game of the week: It was a cold morning in Ann Arbor and the visiting #3 Texas Longhorns came into “The Big House” to face the #10 Michigan Wolverines. Michigan has not lost a home game since 2020. Texas is coming off losing in the College Football semi-final to the Washington Huskies and Michigan is coming off of winning the National Championship. This game had the potential to be the best this week and potentially the best this year. Texas is led by star quarterback, Quinn Ewers. In contrast, Michigan is led by star running back, Donovan Edwards. Texas started the game with the ball and quickly drove down the field. However, the drive ended in disappointment after their kicker missed the kick. Michigan’s opening drive was ugly, as they only had a total of 3 yards and were forced to punt. To end the first quarter Texas was leading 7-0—Michigan then went down and nailed a kick. The score was 7-3 as Texas was winning. However, the game was never close again. Texas came into “The Big House” and dismantled the Michigan Wolverines 31-12. Following the game, Quinn Ewers is now believed to potentially be the front-runner for the “Heisman Trophy” award. Texas is now #2 in the country after their dominating win and Michigan dropped to #17.
Upset of the week: Notre Dame came into this matchup ranked #5 in the country and was hoping to keep winning and keep going up in the rankings. On the other hand, Northern Illinois was favored to lose by 27 points. However, Northern Illinois had different plans. To start the game both teams went down and scored a touchdown. Then Northern Illinois nailed a field goal to end the 1st quarter. Northern Illinois now leads 10-7. Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard then threw a crucial interception which led to another Northern Illinois field goal. The Huskies now lead the Fighting Irish 13-7. Right before the half, Notre Dame had a chance to nail a field goal but it was blocked by Cade Haberman. Notre Dame’s head coach Marcus Freeman was furious that his team was not playing well at all. Notre Dame looked like a completely different team than last week. To start the second half, Northern Illinois drove down the field but ended up missing the kick. Notre Dame then marched down and scored a touchdown where they would gain the lead until late in the game. Northern Illinois nailed a kick with 31 seconds left to win the game 16-14. Northern Illinois’s head coach was very emotional after the game and proud of his boys for fighting and winning.
The Colorado Buffaloes traveled to Nebraska to face off against Dylan Raiola and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Colorado has so much hype on their team, as they are led by head coach Deion Sanders, and other key players such as Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Shilo Sanders. Both teams head into this game at 1-0 and one will leave 2-0. This game truly showed that Colorado is not a top team even though they have some top players. This whole game they were getting beat up by this fierce Nebraska team. At halftime, the score was 28-0 and Nebraska was up. Then tragedy struck for Colorado as star cornerback Shilo Sanders broke his arm and was done. Colorado put up a decent fight as the final score was 28-10, but Nebraska truly showed why the BIG10 may be the best conference in football.
That is all for this week. Hopefully, there will be better games next week. However, this week was not that bad but may be a little better next week.
