Here at Window to Woodmore, we want you, our beloved local audience, to be prepared for winter sports here at Woodmore. We want to give you the best and most insightful coverage of your winter athletes. Here is what you should expect to see this upcoming winter season:
The Woodmore Boys Basketball team will start the upcoming season with three returning lettermen: Luke Morris, Brady Thatcher and Izaiah Wilson. One of the leading scorers for the Wildcats, senior guard Luke Morris, will be a big contributor to the team this year. Luke Morris plans to have a big role this season. Last season, Luke averaged 11.6 PPG, 4.4 REB, and 2.3 AST. Luke is an efficient scorer and also brings defensive intensity. Junior guard, Brady Thatcher, had a season to remember last year. Brady was a dynamic scorer and elevated his game from his previous season as a freshman. Brady averaged 11.7 PPG, 3.0 REB and 2.1 STL. With Luke Morris being the senior, the juniors will have to step up and become leaders. Head Coach Aaron Clouse will begin in his 10th season coaching.
The Woodmore Girls Basketball team is coming off a great season after finishing the season 20-4 and winning the Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC). The girls team graduated three senior starters, but will return three letter winners from last year’s championship squad. Kara Schneider, Cameran Quisno and Abby Sandrock all return for the Lady Cats. Junior forward Kara Schneider earned second team All-NBC conference last year, averaging 8.7 PPG, 6.3 REB and 1.5 STL. Kara was a vital player for the team and is expected to have a good junior season. Senior guard Cam Quisno was a solid on-ball defender and gave remarkable effort on the court. She also had high energy in every game. Cam averaged 6.5 PPG, 4.1 REB and 1.0 AST. The girls have a lot to prove this year transitioning to a new conference. Head Coach Kyle Clair will begin in his 16th season coaching.
The Boys Wrestling team is hoping to have another good season. Last year, the team won Woodmore’s very own A Classic meet, and placed 4th in the NBC championship at Elmwood. The boys wrestling team brought back four seniors: Jack Caldwell, Brant Deal, Tyler Runkle and Aden Carter. Jack Caldwell was the NBC champion in his weight class of 165 lbs and broke the record for fastest pin in six seconds! With hard work and dedication, the boys wrestling team will try to improve this season in a new conference to defend the mat.
New to Woodmore sports this year is the girl’s wrestling team! These ladies fought hard to make this a varsity sport and went to the board meeting on Thursday, September 21st to state their case, and were not only backed by the parents, but the entire boys wrestling team and even some of the football players. The girl’s team consists of senior Caydie Buchanan, juniors Addison Overmyer and Stella Strong, sophomore Satori Alter, and freshman Sophia Alacron.
This winter season will be filled with tons of excitement as the Wildcats look to make a statement in the new conference, the SBC. Best of luck to all winter sports. We’ll bring more complete coverage of the rest of our athletes as the season gets closer. Go Wildcats!
