Have you ever heard about Key Club? Whether you are a student, parent, or community member, Key Club has benefits for everyone. Officially, Key Club is an international organization aimed to provide members with opportunities to help their community, build character, and develop leadership skills. But what does that look like? In our community, this club offers services to organizations and companies, like the Elmore Library. Key Club also hosts fundraisers in which the money or supplies are donated. A popular fundraising event that Key Club holds yearly is Trick-or-Treat for Unisef. This organization is exceptional inside and out.
Key Club’s head advisor is Mrs. Christine Valasek, but the club is student-led, so Senior Sophia Fonseca leads the monthly meetings as president. Taking on the task of president is a huge responsibility, but Fonseca tackled this role for her community. “It’s a way for me to fulfill my devotion to helping others,” she explains, “as long as I can remember, it’s been a goal of mine to put people at ease and make them smile.” This answer not only shows the devotion Fonseca has to this club but also represents how impactful Key Club can be for everyone. In addition to her own devotion, Fonseca hopes that her fellow members will reciprocate that feeling when helping their community. She emphasizes that Key Club shouldn’t just be another club on the list for college applications, but a Club that everyone should commit to.
Just participating in any club is good, but actively helping in Key Club’s service opportunities is terrific. The club also offers different awards according to how much you help out in the community. If interested in having a larger role, students also have the opportunity to be placed on the E-Board. These special members have an additional meeting to discuss how the club is going, brainstorm service ideas, and more. These positions are determined at the end of each school year for the upcoming classes and are another beneficial way to help the community.
Let’s recap! Key Club is a student-led organization that provides students with service opportunities that help the community. The club aims to bring members together not only to gain service hours but also to be motivated by the help they are providing. In addition, the organization helps you connect with the people around you. Key Club is always looking for more members, so if interested, contact Mrs. Valasek!
