Woodmore Local Schools has had a recurring issue of absences that appears among the student body. Schools often struggle with high absentee rates, significantly impacting the learning environment. Understandably, factors such as illness, family issues, or a lack of motivation heavily contribute to students missing classes. When students are frequently absent, it disrupts not only their learning but also the overall dynamics of the classroom. Teachers face challenges in maintaining a lesson plan to engage all students, which can lead to frustration and decreased quality of education. With that, the consequences of not attending school are far-reaching. Students who miss class regularly have a higher chance of falling behind academically, which can result in lower grades and a lack of understanding of the material. The academic gap can question their chances of success in future educational activities and limit their opportunities for higher education employment. Additionally, the continuous absences can affect a student’s social development, leading to feelings of isolation and disconnection from peers. Overall, consistent attendance is vital for both academic achievement and personal growth.
The issue is reoccurring each year; it is the schools and staff’s efforts to keep the students motivated however, the solution is finding engaging activities that make the school day fun again. From personal experience, school was the most stressful part of my day. I dreaded showing up and always counted the hours until I could leave. Later, my friends and I learned that it wasn’t the material being taught; it was the mindset I had while there. The environment never changed; it was my motivation.
Ultimately, the absence issues are an increasing problem that seriously affects students and creates serious problems for not only their grades but their mindset about the environment. Hopefully, in the upcoming school years, the absence rate will change.
