On March 29, the first Woodmore baseball game took place. Senior Trace Murphy was on the bump, and he pitched all 5 innings. In an insane display of pitching talent, he was able to throw a no-hitter. A no-hitter is a game where the entire other team is unable to get a base hit throughout the entire game. Trace is only the 6th pitcher in recorded history to have pitched a no-hitter at Woodmore and the first to do so in 10 years. Trace is a two-year letter winner for Woodmore’s Varsity Baseball Team and was recognized as Second Team All SBC River his Junior year, so it’s no surprise then that he was able to put away Northwood in 5 innings. Trace struck out 8 batters and had his teammates make plays behind him in the field. If the baseball team is able to play like they did in this game under Trace’s leadership, it’s hard to imagine how they’ll lose a game to any opponent.
Woodmore is currently 4-1 and 2-0 in SBC River Division play. Game scores include 17-0 against Northwood, 7-5 against North Baltimore, 0-11 against Elmwood, 11-2 against Old Fort, and 5-4 against St. Joe. Be sure to catch a home game to watch the Wildcats play, the season is just getting started. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to see Trace himself pitching. The only way to find out is to show up and cheer on your Woodmore baseball team.
