The Woodmore Wildcats sent 1 wrestler to the Schottenstein on March 8. Woodmore had 2 alternates, Wyatt Thieroff and Michael Seeger. Landon Rich wrestles in the 165 pound weight class. Landon Rich came into the state tournament with an impressive record of 38 wins and 13 losses. Landon Rich ended up going 0-2 at the OHSAA state tournament. In the first round of the tournament, Landon Rich wrestled Levi Collins of Waynesville High School. Landon Rich lost the match by decision with a score of 9-6. Landon then dropped into the consolation bracket and wrestled Zach Ward of Girard High School. Landon started the match strong with a takedown. Going into the second period of the match, he was up by 3 points. Ward won the coin flip and picked the bottom. Landon Rich quickly elbowed Knee and tilted him for 4 nearfall. Ward then escaped, then took Rich down and got 4 nearfall. Going into the third period, the score was 8-7 Ward. Rich picked neutral. Ward got the takedown followed by 3 nearfall. Rich ended up losing 14-7. Landon Rich ended the season 38-15 as a junior in high school. I asked the state qualifier some questions on how he felt. I asked him how he felt he wrestled at state. Rich said “I thought I wrestled well in my first match but my second match did not go how I wanted it to”. I then asked if he was proud of the way his season went and he said, “ I am proud of how the season went, even though I didn’t complete the goals that I wanted for the state tournament”. The final question was if he accomplished his goals this year. His response was “I did complete my goals by making it to the state tournament”.
