The varsity girls basketball team has a great opportunity in the OHSAA division 6 tournament. They’ve been practicing and preparing very hard and now they finally get the chance to prove themselves.
Last Saturday, February 15, they won a home game against Northwood. The final score was 56 – 18. 11 players scored for Woodmore led by 12 points from both juniors Camille Strong and Kelsey Kaylor.
On Thursday, February 20, they will play again to compete in the tournament. Junior Camille Strong says, “Our team prepared for the tournament by putting in work all season to help us mesh as a team and become our best by the end of the season. One of the key factors in the game was working together to win as a team rather than one or two players doing everything. Another factor was being confident in our abilities and not playing to our opponent’s level. Our team communicated on defense with screens or subbing this helps everyone stay on the same page. On offense, we also communicated the plays to teammates subbing in as well as when we switched plays.”
Junior Kelsey Kaylor was also asked questions on how to prepare for the tournament, she said, “To prepare for this tournament we have watched a lot of film on the teams we will see in the tournament but it’s just a mindset we have to have confidence and not be nervous going into these games. The key factors to win are keeping composure not playing down to the other team’s level and making the same mistakes they make. We have to communicate and work together during the game, we need to be loud and call out who has who on defense and what we were running on offense so everyone on the court is on the same page.”
