The NFL Honors is an annual award show that honors the best players in certain categories for the following NFL season.
Josh Allen won MVP by 21 points just barely edging it out against Lamar Jackson making it the closest MVP race of all time. This is his first time winning the award and the 3rd Bill in history to win the award following O.J. Simpson in 1973 and Thurman Thomas in 1991. Josh Allen led the Bills to a 14-3 record making them 2nd in the conference just behind the 16-1 Cheifs whose only loss was the Bills. Josh Allen had a fantastic season not only passing the ball but running the ball. He threw for 3,731 yards on 483 passing attempts with a completion percentage of 63.6 he also threw for 28 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. He could also do it with his legs rushing for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The NFL Offensive Player Of The Year was awarded to Saquan Barkley after he went ballistic on his new team this year. Barkley became the 9th player in history to eclipse 2,000 yards in a single season, he rushed for 2,005 only one hundred yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s record of most rushing yards in a season with 2,105. Saquan was a vital piece in leading the Eagles to their 2nd Super Bowl victory.
The NFL Defensive Player Of The Year was Patrick Surtain II. Surtain becomes only the 3rd cornerback to win this award since 1995, following Charles Woodson in 2009 and Stephon Gilmore in 2019. The other finalists were Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt, Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, and Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson. Surtain was a lockdown cornerback for the Broncos this season with 45 total tackles, 4 interceptions, and a touchdown.
The NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year was Jayden Daniels after having debatably the best rookie quarterback season of all time. He was almost unanimously voted for this award but one vote went to Las Vegas Raider tight end Brock Bowers. The Heisman winner last year and number 2 overall draft pick made the Commanders have a complete turnaround from last year, from going 4-13 to 12-5 and making the NFC Championship which nobody expected. It’s the first time they’ve won a playoff game in 19 years and the first time making the championship game in 33 years.
The NFL Defensive Rookie Of The Year was Jared Verse of the Las Angeles Rams. He recorded 66 tackles with 4 ½ sacks and led all rookies with 18 quarterback hits and 77 pressures. He came on strong in the playoffs, returning a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings and notching two sacks against the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round. He was the 4th defensive player taken in the draft but ended up being the best.
