It was an exciting week for Woodmore Basketball, with the Girls Senior Night game on February 10 and the Boys Senior Night Game on February 11. Both extremely exciting games, they were great send-offs for our senior athletes. All of the senior basketball players, wrestlers, and cheerleaders were recognized between the two games. Specifically, the Boys took on Hopewell-Loudon in a devastating loss, but it was still an amazing atmosphere for our Senior Athletes.
Six basketball players were recognized at this game; Mitchell Gillig, Parker Hahn, Izaiah Wilson, Brody Ish, Karter Walper, and Brady Thatcher. Cheerleaders were also recognized, in addition to the basketball players. Kylie Herrig, Kylee Majchszak, Jayden Gonzalez, Daesy Hudson, and Ella Hass were the cheerleaders who received recognition at this game. For the basketball players, Big Head cutouts were handed out to students in the student section to cheer on their favorite seniors.
The game was extremely close for its majority, with the score being tied at several moments across the four quarters played. In fact, the game was tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter. The game remained close in the second half also with a score of 34-32 in Hopewell’s favor at the end of the third quarter. Sadly, the boys weren’t able to pull through with a victory, losing 50-43 in the final moments of the game. Some players had an outstanding performance during the game, such as senior Izaiah Wilson and junior Carson Slates. Slates dropped 18 points and Izaiah dropped 13 with some impressive three-point shooting. While the boys weren’t able to pull through with the senior night victory, they were still able to create a great game atmosphere that defines what high school basketball is really all about.
Congratulations to the boys on their season this year, and hopefully they can make a run with some depth in the upcoming post-season tournament. Congratulations also to all of the seniors on both the cheerleading and basketball teams who have dedicated several years of their high school career toward their sport. The journalism staff thanks you for giving us amazing stories to write about your sporting events.
