On Saturday, January 25, 2025, eleven alumni of Woodmore High School were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Wrestling, softball, cross country, football, golf, track and field, basketball, and baseball were all sports that were represented by some of Woodmore’s top athletes. Ranging back from the class of 1984 to the class of 2014, athletes were recognized at halftime of the boys’ varsity basketball game and given a plaque with their list of accomplishments engraved. Dan Becerra, Angie Fegley, Jenny (Helmeci) Burner, Steve Korn, Carly Pendleton, Erin (Pendleton) Saenz, Amy (Perkins) Bergman, Tyler Rosenburger, Jeff Rospert, Ryan Travis, and Evan Ulinski were the athletes who proudly received their awards last Saturday night.
The big accomplishments announced on January 25, 2025, recognized the Woodmore Hall of Fame members who exceeded their athletics during their high school years. Dan Becerra was the first member of this award. Dan was recognized in football and wrestling for his numerous awards in each performance. Among his accomplishments, he is one of the only two players in school history in football to earn first-team All-State honors twice, earned a spot on the Toledo Blade all-area team as a senior, and earned three letters in wrestling setting a school record for pins in a season. Those accomplishments are just a few of the many deeds he completed during high school.
The second athlete to be recognized in this honor was Angie Fegley. Angie was in the class of 1995 and was recognized in softball, basketball, and volleyball. Her performances in each sport earned her the school record for doubles in a season with 14 in 1993, she was an all-district selection in basketball her last three seasons, including first team as a senior, and was a second-team all-league selection in volleyball as a senior. Angie excelled in her athletic career and her passion for softball followed her to the University of Findlay where she earned four letters as a softball team member.
The third athlete appreciated for her sports talents was Jenny (Helmuci) Burner. Jenny was the class of 1991, and her 4 years of high school consisted of cross country, cheerleading, and track and field. The records of her career consisted of being the only four-time individual league champion in school history in cross country (1987-1990), being the SLL champion in the 800 as a sophomore, and being a four-year varsity member of the football and basketball cheer squads. The cheer team placed first in UCA Camp in 1989, and the team was the Class A Ohio State Fair champs in 1990. Angie’s achievements were an impressive mark on Woodmore’s records.
Steve Korn is the fourth athlete, and he was the class of 1984. His recognition in Woodmore golf and basketball was announced including the three letters he earned in basketball, shot 34 in 1983 to tie for the best 9-hole score in a home event in school history, and has the best career scoring average in school history (39.6), and was a first-team All-SLL selection in each of his four seasons and he is the only player in school history in golf to earn first-team all-league four times. Steve’s list is beyond the ones previously mentioned however, his deeds during his athletic career are very impressive.
Carly Pendleton dominated the class of 2011 with her performances in volleyball and track and field. Carly was involved in the 2008 and 2009 teams that were district champions and then in 2010, Carly earned high school All-American honors in the discus at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. After high school, Carly went on to be a four-year varsity track and field athlete at Ohio State University where she had the fifth-best throw at Ohio State of 168-3. Following her Ohio State accomplishments in 2014, she finished fourth in the discus at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and was a regional qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Erin (Saenz) Pendleton was a graduate of the class of 2009 at Woodmore High School. Pendleton was the Division 3 state champion in the discus as a junior and a senior. She went on to letter as a member of the track and field team at the University of Michigan. Erin was the Big Ten Champion in the discus in 2010 and 2012 while setting the school record there. She attended the U.S. Junior Nationals multiple times and in 2008 she traveled to Poland where she placed 11th. Erin is now a high school English teacher and also an entrepreneur of her business “Simply Sori”.
Amy (Perkins) Bergman was a star athlete in the class of 1999 while participating in basketball and softball. Perkins was the Division 3 District 7 Player of the Year in 1989-99 and was also awarded third-team all-state that year in basketball. In 1995-96, she had a school record of 63 three-point field goals in the season. Perkins also earned four letters in softball. first-team all-SLL as a senior, second-team All-SLL as a junior, and helped her team to multifarious district titles throughout her high school career. Amy is now a tax partner at William Vaughan Company in Maumee.
Tyler Rosenburger was a graduate of the class of 2005 while participating in basketball, track and field, and football. In 2004-05, Tyler was the SLL Player of the Year and also third-team all-state. Rosenburger 2 seasons before that made first-team All-SLL in both seasons for baseball. In basketball he is second in school history in career points with 1,309, second in career steals with 227, fifth in career three-point field goals with 62, fifth in career rebounds with 535, and eighth in career assists with 275. Tyler Rosenburger shot 55% or better from the field in each of his last three seasons at Woodmore! He went on to letter four years at Ashland University and was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive team his senior year. He also earned 2 varsity letters in football and holds a 1600 relay record at the high school. Tyler is now working in finance for the Bendix Corporation.
Jeff Rospert still holds nine school records at Woodmore after graduating in 1984. He holds the record for single-season batting average, hits in a season, struck out only once in 1984, single-season total bases, career batting average, career hits, career doubles, career triples, and career total bases. In 1984, he played in the state and district all-star games while in 1981 he lettered as a freshman. He later on went to earn four letters at Kent State University where he earned second-team All-MAC, holds records for season at-bats and season hits, and also led the team in batting average in 1986-87. Rospert also earned three letters in football and three letters in baseball while setting school records on both teams. Jeff is now in executive management for medical/surgical devices with Carl Ziess, Inc.
Ryan Travis was in the class of 1997, and he is second on the career rushing list; set a school record with 23 touchdowns as a senior. His football, basketball, and baseball skills allowed him to hold the school record for scoring 148 points in 1996, Ryan also had the 8th-best season with 96 points in 1995 and is one of eight Woodmore players in school history to be named a Toledo Chapter of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. He finished his athletic career by earning three letters in basketball and four letters in baseball.
Evan Ulinski is the only wrestler in school history to qualify for the state tournament four times. A graduate of the class of 2014, Evan is also the only wrestler to ever place at the state tournament three times. Ulinski holds the record for most wins in a career with 184 and holds the school record for pins in a career with 117. Throughout his career he has been the state Division 3 runner-up two times, the SLL Champion in 2010-11, and qualified at many district meets. Evan also earned four letters in baseball while earning honorable mention all-league as well. He then lettered in football for three years where he earned first-team all-league as a receiver, second-team as a defensive back, honorable mention all-state, and also holds three school records from football. Evan went on to attend the Air Force Academy where he wrestled for two years, and he is now a pilot for the Republic Airways.
