The Woodmore Wildcats wrestling team competed at the Thunderbird Invitational on the 24th and 25th of January. The Wildcats placed 8th out of 36 teams with 6 out of their 11 wrestlers placing. 113-pounder Gage Sliwinski (13-11) went 2-2 in the tournament with a win by pin and forfeit. 120-pounder Wyatt Thieroff (26-5) placed 3rd with a 4-1 record. Wyatt had two tech falls, a pin, and a decision. 126-pounder Matt Caldwell (13-13) placed 8th with a 2-3 record. Matt had a pin and a tech fall. 138-pounder Aiden Cordy (23-9) went 2-2 in the tournament with 2 pins. 144-pounder DJ Orcelletto (8-7) went 2-2 with 2 pins. 150-pounder Bob Seeger (12-11) went 0-2 at the tournament. 157-pounder Gavin Herrig (19-4) placed 7th with a 3-2 record. Gavin had a pin and 2 decision wins. 165-pounder Graham Knepper (17-13) went 1-2 with a medical forfeit. 175-pounder Landon Rich (25-8) placed 8th and had a 2-3 record with 2 pins. 190-pounder Michael Seeger (20-7) placed 6th with a 2-3 record. He had a major decision. 215-pounder Bailey Jendrzejak (27-7) placed 3rd with a 4-1 record. Bailey had a fall, a major decision, and 2 decisions.
215-pounder Bailey Jendrzejak was interviewed about his thoughts on the LCC Thunderbird Invitational. Bailey was asked how he felt he performed this weekend. He responded, “I feel like I performed better, but some matches got to my head, and I was kinda out of it.” When asked how he felt his team performed, Bailey said, “ The team definitely would have performed better. Some matches could have gone better for us, but overall, I think we did pretty well.” He was asked what his goals were for the end of the season and he said “ My goal for the end of the season is to make it out of sectionals and make it to the state tournament”.
The Wildcats JV team will be competing at the Bowling Green JV tournament on 2/1/25. The varsity team will compete at the Rossford McCumber Memorial tournament on 2/8/25. Good luck Wildcats.
