On January 14th, the Gibsonburg Golden Bears traveled to play the Woodmore Wildcats in a classic SBC showdown. The Wildcats entered the game following a win against Danbury. On the other hand, Gibsonburg is coming off a two-game win streak and looking to extend it. Woodmore’s starting lineup featured: Brady Thatcher (Senior), Carson Slates (Junior), Brody Ish (Senior), Mitchell Gillig (Senior), and Camdyn Schwartz (Junior). Woodmore ended up losing to the Golden Bears with a final score of 78-36. Brady Thatcher led the Wildcats with 18 points and Carson Slates also chipped in a solid 10 points. Thatcher and Slates were both asked their opinions on the game; they said, “I think we handled their pressure well but we could have executed better and made more open shots. We also didn’t defend well in transition and didn’t rebound the ball.” Camdyn Schwartz was also asked how he felt about starting his first varsity basketball game. Schwartz stated, “I was a little nervous but also excited that I was starting.”
Although the varsity team had a tough game last night, the junior varsity and freshman teams had closer games. The junior varsity team lost a close one 46 to 34. The game was back and forth the whole time, Bradley Fetzer and Collin Perkins both had a great game with 8 points. Fetzer is a sophomore at Woodmore and starts junior varsity. The Woodmoore boys basketball team will travel on the road this Friday, the seventeenth, to play Hopewell Louden.
