The Woodmore boys’ basketball team played Tiffin Calvert at home yesterday during the first week back from winter break. They had a tough loss that night, 59 to 29. Despite the tough loss, senior Brady Thatcher was the leading scorer for the night with 11 points. Over winter break, Thatcher passed 1000 career points. To read more about his accomplishment, read the article “What it means to reach 1000 Points,” by Harry LaMunyon and Maceon Clark.
Thatcher was asked about his thoughts on tonight’s game, the challenges they faced, and how he thinks he played, he answered, “The game was rough. We hadn’t played in about 3 weeks and it was our first game back. We were missing some players and a bit out of shape, but we will return for the next game. One key challenge was getting our offense going. We played a decent defensive game but our offense could not get going causing us to be outscored. My performance was poor. I couldn’t get any type of shot to fall consistently”.
Carson Slates, Gavin Donley, Karter Walper, Mitchell Gillig, and Brandon Kayser added to the 29-point total along with Thatcher. Although the Varsity team had a tough game last night, the junior varsity and freshman teams had closer games. The Junior Varsity team lost a close one 43 to 35. The game was back and forth the whole time, and Ish Nagy had a great game with 10 points. Nagy is a freshman at Woodmore, and he plays a lot in junior varsity.
The Freshman boys’ basketball team lost an even closer game. The final score was 33 to 26, and freshman Parker Boss had an outstanding game with 16 points. The Woodmoore boys’ basketball team will travel on the road this Friday, the tenth, to play Danbury.
