The Ohio State-Michigan rivalry is one of the best, if not the best, in all of sports history. The rivalry dates back to 1897 and has been a notorious battle between the two teams ever since. Ohio State and Michigan fans call it “The Game.”
Michigan started playing football in 1879, more than a decade before Ohio State did. That gave the Wolverines a leg-up in the competition. They won the first game over Ohio State, 34-0, on Oct. 16, 1897. Michigan scored six touchdowns, all in the first half. This event is what started the rivalry that still sparks fire to this day. Throughout the years, “The Game” has been back and forth for the two teams, with the all-time record being 62-51 in Michigan’s favor.
Just two weeks ago the two rivals faced off against each other. It was a close game with the final score being 10-13, Michigan. After the game, one of the Michigan players ran to the middle of Ohio State’s field with a Michigan flag and planted it on their logo. This made many Ohio State fans mad. It made some people so mad that Ohio state Rep. Josh Williams introduced a bill Tuesday that would make flag planting at Ohio Stadium around Buckeyes football games considered a felony.
To conclude, the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry is one of college football’s greatest events. Each year, it brings intense, heated competition, making it a game that we never forget.
