Woodmore Wildcats wrestling is coming up fast, their first tournament is on December 7th at Northwood. The wrestling team’s season rank in the SBC is tied for first with Lakota. The wrestling team has 20 wrestlers out this year for the boys team. They will be able to cover every weight class except the heavyweight spot.
I interviewed Wyatt Thieroff, aka the peoples champ, a sophomore and promising looking wrestler this year. He had a record of 30-16 his freshman season. He also placed at league with a placement of 6th. He also qualified for districts with a remarkable 3rd place finish at sectionals. In the off season, Thieroff continued his wrestling journey by wrestling freestyle and Greco. He qualified in Greco for one of the biggest wrestling tournaments in the world for teenagers, Fargo. Although he didn’t place there, qualifying is already a big accomplishment and something to be proud of. Thieroff is coming into the 2024 wrestling season at the 120 pound weight class, and is ready to show off his newly found skills that his dedication in the offseason has brought to him.
The first question that I asked Wyatt was, how are you feeling about the upcoming season? His response to this question was “I feel really good about the season. I think the team will do well this year.” The second question I asked him was, what do you think the team will do in the league? “I think that we will win the river and place top 5 overall,” was Thieroff’s response. Then I asked him, how do you think you will personally do this year? ” His answer was, “I think I will do amazing, and I think that I can get at least 30 or more wins again this year.” Finally I asked him, is your goal for the season to be a state qualifier? “My goal for the season is to get 35 wins as well as being a state qualifier,” was his response.
