Thousands of people each year put their lives on the line in order to protect ours; the very least we can do is thank them for their service. Veterans Day falls on November 11 each year and is celebrated around the nation. We will never be able to imagine the sacrifices and choices they’ve made in order to keep our country free.
On Friday November 8, Woodmore High School is hosting a Veterans Day Luncheon! Students will be serving the veterans in order to give back just a small amount of thanks for all they’ve done for us. Veterans love to spend this time enjoying their food while sharing with each other experiences they have had while serving our country. After lunch, all students and faculty report to the gymnasium for a Veterans Day Assembly. The students line the hallways with American flags to show their pride for the local veterans while they walk through the red, white, and blue filled halls. Some students will stand in front of the crowd to share words of wisdom, while the symphonic choral prepared a piece of music to share. Mrs. Curtis each year goes above and beyond for the veterans and shared with me that, “I enjoy Veterans Day because it gives our students a chance to see the Veterans in our community. It’s important to put a name with a face. Plus, I love our country and our Veterans.”
Veterans day is an important day for citizens to show gratitude and support for all men and women who have served our country. It provides us an opportunity to reflect on the military and the past conflicts that we have overcome. Many veterans have made significant personal sacrifices, including time away from family, physical injuries, and mental health challenges. Veterans Day is a way to express appreciation for those sacrifices and to ensure that their contributions are never forgotten.
