Our next teacher is Chad McCarthy. He’s an intervention specialist and has been a teacher for over 20 years. Not only has he spent a lot of time teaching, but he also used to be a football coach, which has given him some extra experience working with students in different ways.
Mr. McCarthy explained that he decided to become a teacher after his first job as an Environmental Consultant right out of college. Although it was a good job, he didn’t feel like he was really being challenged, nor did he feel like he was helping people in a meaningful way. He wanted a career where he could make a real difference in people’s lives. So, he went back to school, earned his master’s degree in teaching, and hasn’t looked back since. Now, as a teacher, he’s helping kids grow up to be healthy, happy, and productive adults. Plus, he enjoys the fact that teaching keeps him on his toes with new challenges every day.
Mr. McCarthy went to Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where he earned both his undergraduate degree and his master’s degree. Later, he went to the University of Findlay to get his license to be a school administrator. His background in both teaching and coaching brings a lot of value to our program.
Mr. McCarthy loves Woodmore mainly because of the people here. He shared, “The people are great! They are all so helpful and kind.” It’s clear he really appreciates the friendly and supportive community.
When I asked Mr. McCarthy what he likes most about working with his students, he said, “I like to hear the kids talk about their passions and what they love doing. I really enjoy helping them research and discover different aspects of their favorite things.” This shows he cares about more than just teaching, he wants to know what makes each student excited and happy.
Mr. McCarthy’s way of teaching goes beyond regular lessons. He puts in the effort to understand each of his students personally, making them feel important and valued. That’s what makes him such a great teacher.
