The Woodville and Elmore food pantries are at it again. Various community groups are lending a hand to help the food pantry provide families with food and other household items. The food pantries you may have heard or seen about are in most communities around the U.S. The main goal of the food pantry is to give out to less fortunate families and to help them move through their struggle of not being able to have as many household items as the average family. The food pantries around the nation have been known for the great generosity and the kindness that they spread to the people in the communities.
With our neighboring community’s food pantries getting ready for their big day of giving out food, Woodmore High School became involved with giving to the food pantry. Woodmore made students aware of bringing in canned food for the food pantry and the opportunity for a chance to win some prizes. The students who bring in cans are entered into a raffle, if that student gets picked they get the prize. In each class that has students bring in food, the cans are counted and added to the class total. Then they are rated based on the amount of food the class brings. Seniors topped the leaderboard, sophomores came second, freshmen third, and juniors last.
On the other hand, the Fremont News Messenger did an article on a topic including the Woodville food pantry and the news they presented was sad to know. Their article states, “The group that manages the village’s food pantry – said shelves are nearly bare at the pantry.” (Fremont News Messenger, Sept. 19, 24). This was unfortunate to read, knowing they might not have enough to provide to their clients. In August of this year, the Woodville food pantry spent nearly $1,000 on groceries to ensure they could serve their clients. However, with the community groups in the area helping the food pantry, there is confidence in the amount of food being provided.
Woodmore ended the food pantry turn-ins for the students on Monday, October 21, and announced the ranking for the classes that brought in the most canned goods. Last place was the juniors, third place was the freshmen, second place was the sophomores, and in first place, the seniors. In total of the four classes, 1,458 cans were brought in. The Woodville and Elmore food pantry must appreciate all the support from the Woodmore students. This is a good representation of Woodmore’s Spirit and pride in helping the community.
With that being said, the Woodville food pantry has been struggling this year. Thanks to Woodmore and other community groups, the pantry is being stocked with food and will be able to fulfill its sole purpose. We look forward to the Woodville and Elmore food pantry taking place so families will be supported and satisfied by the kindness and generosity of the food pantry.
