Last week on Friday October 11th, the Woodmore Wildcats lost a tough one against Tiffin Calvert. The final score was 51-21 on the cool night. It was Tiffin Calvert’s homecoming night, so a giant crowd was in the stadium.
In the first quarter, Woomdore and Calvert kept scoring back and forth keeping it a close game with sophomore quarterback Calvin Lipstraw throwing a touchdown pass to junior Michael Seeger and junior Landon Rich having a 72-yard touchdown run. Tiffin Calvert responded with a 99-yard touchdown pass and a long offensive drive to score a touchdown. Missing the extra point, Woodmore took the lead 14-13 early in the game. Until Tiffin Calvert drove the ball down the field for a touchdown and a field goal, putting them up 10 at the half.
Woomdore wasn’t giving up though. The captains Landon Rich, Micheal Seeger, Karter Walper, and Izaiah Wilson tried their hardest to fire up the team at halftime. Unfortunately, Tiffin Calvert came out stronger in the second half and increased theirs to 51-31.
Sophomore Cole Potridge had a great game with a touchdown in the first half, expanding Woodmore’s score to 21. He was asked how Woodmore’s defense can improve at practice this week and if Hopewell is going to be a tough game. He responded, “I think Woodmore’s defense can improve this week if we do our jobs and come out strong. Hopewell will be a tough game. We’re going to have to have little to no mistakes and leave it all on the field to get the win, it’s going to be a dogfight.”
This week was the sophomore receiver and free safety Wesley Kayser’s first week back after recovering from a broken arm. He played the whole game at free safety with a club on his arm. He was asked how it feels to be back playing and how Woodmore can bounce back from the tough loss. He responded, “It feels great to be back out on the field with my teammates. I have never missed a game due to injury so it was weird not being able to play. We took a tough loss to Calvert this week but I think in these final 2 weeks of the regular season we will bounce back. We play a very good team this week but they will make mistakes and if we play our best game we will hang with them. Everyone needs to be locked in and do their job for these last 2 weeks of the regular season and we will be successful and make the playoffs with a winning record.”
Woodmore plays Hopewell Louden away this week. Make sure to go support them. Go Wildcats!
