Game of the Week: The #1 Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0) traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to face off vs Vanderbilt Commodores (2-2). The last time Vanderbilt beat Alabama was in 1984. Alabama was coming off of a huge win vs Georgia and walked into Vanderbilt thinking they would steamroll them. To start off the game, Sedrick Alexander had a 7-yard touchdown run. Vanderbilt then picked off Alabama’s quarterback, Jalen Milroe, and proceeded to take the interception to the house and go up 13-0. Alabama fans were still feeling confident about their chances of winning. However, Vanderbilt was hoping to end that hope as soon as possible. On the following drive, Jalen Milroe showed who he was as he led Alabama down the field and Jam Miller ended the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. Vanderbilt’s lead was now 13-7 as Alabama was gaining momentum. To start off the second quarter, Sedrick Alexander ran for a 1-yard touchdown and then Vanderbilt’s kicker, Brock Taylor nailed a 51-yard field goal. Vanderbilt’s lead was increased to 23-7. However, right before the half Jam Miller ran in for another touchdown. At the half, Vanderbilt led 23-14. Coming out of the break, Jalen Milroe ran for a touchdown to cut the lead even shorter. Alabama now had a huge boost of momentum and was projected to win. Vanderbilt’s next drive only resulted in a 4-play drive. However, those 4-plays led to a touchdown to give Vanderbilt a better chance at winning the game. This game then picked up speed as both teams went down to score touchdowns and Alabama scored another touchdown while Vanderbilt only made a field goal. With 2:46 left in the game, Alabama needed a defensive stop in order to win the game. Alabama could not get that done. Vanderbilt ended up winning 40-35. Vanderbilt’s coach loved this win and said, “This is the dream, right here.” Vanderbilt is now 3-2 overall and Alabama is now 4-1. Both teams are 1-1 in the conference and are hoping to continue to win and rematch in the SEC Championship for a chance at the College Football Playoffs.
