As the deadline to order our cap and gowns approaches, real life starts to set in. Senior year allows us to do everything we love, one last time. Many people would describe this year as being bittersweet, most are ready to move on but don’t want to let go of what we have. As seniors we have grown comfortable with our surroundings and the people around us every day but it’s time for us to leave our mark on the world. We can’t shy away from opportunities because we are nervous to start, or we are unsure of where to start. We have many people wanting to see us succeed and many people willing to help us get there.
Mr. Clair, the guidance counselor here at Woodmore helps guide us through every obstacle. He held a college information night to give students more of an insight as to what they need to accomplish before going to college and how to apply. He also helps guide students who don’t plan on going to college. He helps students enter the trades or even the military. Also, as juniors Mr. Clair made us take a survey that in the end would give us many careers that we could be compatible with. Senior Macie Grove shared with me that this was helpful because, “it gives you a good idea as to what jobs would work best for me and helped me find some interests I didn’t know I would like.” Mr. Clair is a good resource for all students to use, but you have to be willing to ask questions and get involved in the process. When I interviewed Mr. Clair, he said the best part about seeing the kids at Woodmore graduate is, “knowing the journey it took them to get there, and then seeing the sense of accomplishment and pride from them, as well as their families.” Mr. Clair also shared with me that, “I would consider the entire staff and daily operation here at Woodmore a resource. We involve teachers, we make specific plans for the students and maintain communication between all parties to ensure they have the opportunity to be successful. The student, of course, has to reciprocate that and do the work.”
The overwhelming feeling of what to do, where to go, and who to be can make us feel doubtful about our future. As students we have to be willing to reach out and ask for help when we need it, this is a confusing time for us all. With the help of Mr. Clair and the entire staff at Woodmore, we can be successful!
