Just last week the Woodmore Wildcats Varsity Football team had a win at home against the Willard Flashes, making them 3-0. It was a special game because it was Homecoming week. The score in the first half was 34-6 and the final score was 41-34.
Junior and team captain Landon Rich once again had an outstanding game. He had 30 carries and 272 yards. Rich scored four touchdowns, averaging about 9 yards per carry. Landon was asked a few questions about his performance. The questions were how did you feel having 272 rushing yards and was it tough overcoming Willards passing game on defense? His response to the first question was, “it felt great having the rushing yards I had but getting the win was more important than stats”. He also said, “overcoming their passing offense was tough in the second half. They adjusted very well to what we were doing and started to pick apart our defense towards the end of the game”.
In the beginning of the game, Woodmore’s defense was doing great, holding them to only 6 points, thanks to senior and team captain Izaiah Wilson for blocking the extra point. Wilson is a starting lineman on both offense and defense. He has 3 sacks on the year so far and he helped Landon Rich with 2 safeties on the season. Wilson was asked about how important it is to be a captain and what kinds of responsibilities a team captain has. He said, “I have to be a vocally positive teammate, holding people accountable because I know the potential we have. I have to be someone that people can look up to and trust me to help lead the team”.
During the game, Sophomore Wesley Kayser got injured in the endzone after going for a tackle and getting his arm stuck. He broke his forearm during the play. Wesley says, “My arm is starting to feel better but I can only wiggle my fingers for now. I go to the doctor on Wednesday to get a hard cast and then he will tell me if I can return to play or not. I was upset when I had to leave the game early, I just wanted to play”. Kayser says that he is confident Woodmore will be okay because of Robert Seeger and Jesse Lopez. Freshman Robert Seeger will replace Kayser at wide receiver and free safety.
Woodmore will play the Margaretta Polar Bears in their stadium next Friday. Go Wildcats!
