Major league baseball has a problem, the league has been losing viewership ever since the steroid era. Steroids in baseball used to have a strong hold on the sport in 1994 to 2004. The era was also some of the most entertaining times in baseball history. The MLB should bring steroids back to the sport to make it entertaining again. The problem with baseball now is that the attendance is lower than ever, 9 million less tickets sold compared to 2007. In the steroid era in baseball, the review in baseball was increased by 115%. By taking a look at one of the best hitters in the league, Shohei Ohtani has a .292 batting average with 44 home runs. Now taking a look at one of the best hitters in the steroid era, Barry Bonds batting average was .328 and he hit 73 home runs in one season.
By implementing steroids into the MLB, the attendance would go up and fans of the MLB would go up. This would benefit everybody by making more money for the MLB. The viewer would be more entertained and want to watch more baseball games. Also the performance of the players would be up resulting in new records being broken and more players making it to the hall of fame. Steroids changed baseball in the late 90’s and early 2000’s by showing that they drove in more viewers and if the MLB implements steroids into the game, more viewers would flood in the stadium solving the lowering attendance in the MLB. However some might say that steroids are too dangerous to give to players. Steroids can be dangerous however if the league controls the dosage of the steroids given to the players and what type of steroids are used, they can significantly lessen the dangers of steroids. The players in the MLB should have a small 4 year window of steroid use and then they have to take a mandatory two years off of steroids to reduce health risk and the post effects of using steroids. The players also would have a choice of whether they want to use steroids or not, protecting their right to play baseball if they don’t want to use steroids. Baseball has been on a steady downfall with attendance since the steroid era by introducing steroids safely into the league to get the attendance back up to what it was during the steroid era.
